More Information

One of the most reliable GSM wines, year in, year out.

2018 Clarry’s GSM is deep purple-black in colour. Bounding from the glass are incredible aromatics of juicy berries, dark cherry, rose petal, milk chocolate, musk, clove spice and fresh licorice. The intense bouquet continues to the bountiful palate. It is full, rounded and loaded with plenty of dark fruits. It is charmingly seamless with extremely fine tannins adding structure and texture. Limited maturation in seasoned barrels has added complexity while respecting the fruit purity that is the hallmark of this wine. The bright and flavoursome fruits extend well into the lengthy finish. Clarry’s is an approachable, fruit-driven and opulent GSM that is best enjoyed now or over the next five years.

"The Kalleske family has been growing and selling grapes on a mixed farming property at Greenock for over 140 years. Sixth-generation Troy Kalleske, with brother Tony, established the winery and created the Kalleske label in 1999. The vineyard is planted to shiraz (27ha), grenache (6ha), mataro (2ha), chenin blanc, durif, viognier, zinfandel, petit verdot, semillon and tempranillo (1ha each). The vines vary in age, with the oldest dating back to 1875; the overall average age is around 50 years. All are grown biodynamically. Exports to all major markets." James Halliday

Where this wine comes from - Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is Australia’s best-known wine region and there’s a good reason why. The wines certainly live up to their international reputation, particularly Barossa Shiraz. With long, warm summers, the region produces full-bodied styles with power and panache. The reds are rich and luscious in their youth with dark-berried flavours, fruit intensity and fine-grained tannins, which mature gracefully with time in the cellar. But there’s more to the region than Shiraz. Grenache and Mourvèdre do more than play a supporting role in GSM blends, they’re standing on their own two feet as single varietal wines. And with a new school of winemakers at the helm, the region is in good hands for a long and healthy future.
