About this Wine
"A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, the remainder Shiraz, this is typically Barossan. Christmas cake spice and dried candied fruits are given a savoury veneer by Cabernet's herbaceous veil of dried sage, bouquet garni and tobacco. Cassis and the usual cavalry of dark fruits wait in the wings, before Babernet's firm, assertive tannins reel it all into a drinkable whole." 92pts - Ned Goodwin - James Halliday Wine Companion
About the Winery
JJ Hahn is a high accomplished partnership b/w grape growers the Hahn family and Rolf Binder. You can't accuse the Hahn family being new to the game as they have been growing grapes in the Barossa since 1845!
Maria and Johann Christian Hahn arrived in the Barossa Valley in 1845, and like many early Barossa settlers were of Silesian-German descent. Second generation Barossa winemaker, Rolf Binder, first began producing wines under the JJ Hahn brand in 1997 as a joint venture with 6th generation Barossa growers, James and Jacqui Hahn. Today Rolf is co-owner and has retained the management of the vineyard and the winemaking.
A recent acquisition in the Vine Vale area has now given Rolf access to centenarian shiraz vines, planted in the 1890s, with the first wine being released from the exceptional 2015 vintage. Wines are only made during the best vintages, giving the JJ Hahn label a well-deserved reputation for quality as well as excellent value.
