More Information

The fruit for The Brunette comes from a truly unique vineyard site on top of Moppa Hill, on a moderate incline ranging from around 340m to 380m altitude and faces east, perfect for catching the morning sun. Planted with 1654 Shiraz clone to approximately 2 hectares. The soils are lean red clays with seams of ironstone — brunette in colour — which produce optimum conditions for dark, savoury fruits and fine, structured tannins. Only 200 cases made.

"From a Shiraz vineyard planted on top of Moppa Hill, sitting at 380m above sea level, which makes it the highest elevation on the western ridge of the Barossa. 40% new barrique. Very spicy and exotic, lapsang souchong tea, vanilla and perfume, ovaltine, crisp blackberry. Medium-bodied, earthy and savoury, tea and spice, tightly knit tannin, distinctly non-fruity, though has flavour including a sort of blackcurrant intensity. Dry and pulsing through the finish. Distinct personality and interest here." 95pts - Gary Walsh - WineFront

Where this wine comes from - Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is Australia’s best-known wine region and there’s a good reason why. The wines certainly live up to their international reputation, particularly Barossa Shiraz. With long, warm summers, the region produces full-bodied styles with power and panache. The reds are rich and luscious in their youth with dark-berried flavours, fruit intensity and fine-grained tannins, which mature gracefully with time in the cellar. But there’s more to the region than Shiraz. Grenache and Mourvèdre do more than play a supporting role in GSM blends, they’re standing on their own two feet as single varietal wines. And with a new school of winemakers at the helm, the region is in good hands for a long and healthy future.
