Originally Heathcote based, Greenstone Vineyards acquired the former Sticks Yarra Valley winery (formerly Yarra Ridge) in early 2015, an expansion which added a further 33 hectares to its portfolio. Specialising in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from their Yarra Valley vines, as well as rich Sangiovese and Shiraz from their Heathcote vines, Greenstone has truly shown its versatility in producing inspiring, hand-crafted wines.
Greenstone Heathcote Vineyard. Enjoys a Mediterranean climate & was specifically designed to produce low but superior quality yields with 4,500 vines per hectare (over twice the average for the rest of the region). Row orientation is also unique, running east-west rather than typical north-south ensuring protection from the hot afternoon sun, crucial for lower berry temperatures that produce livelier characters and brighter acidity.
"Heathcote Sangiovese served fresh but complex. Win. Liked this immediately. It has drinkability written all over it but it has the more cerebral side covered too. Lots of savouriness – if it wore a t-shirt it would have LEAF MATTERS emblazoned on the front – but it also offers a good serve of ripe, cherried fruit and an appropriate rumble of tannin. In fact it’s chewy in a good way. Nicely priced too." 92pts - Campbell Mattinson - WineFront
