Glenguin Vineyard was first planted in the 1980s with an average vine age now over 25 years and each wine comes from a small individual vineyard block on the property. Organic and biodynamic farm ing principles are followed at Glenguin where things are still done by hand from planting through vine training to pruning and handpicking at vintage.
The Shiraz and Semillon vines at Glenguin are directly descended from James Busby’s original planting at Kirkton in the 1820s. They are planted on their own roots on a unique combination of a raised gravel bench for shiraz with sandy loam over red basalt for Semillon.
"A single plot of sandy loam over red basalt is responsible for this lightweight semillon, weighing in at a more traditional 11%. Fermented wild, too. Unusual still in these parts. This is very good. Scintillating intensity of flavour with palpably natural acidity and a waft of phenolic pucker making all the difference to the wine's digestibility. Nothing too tangy. Nothing out of place. Lemon oil, grapefruit pulp and dried tatami. Lovely stuff. On the softer side, but all the better for it." 95pts - Ned Goodwin - Wine Companion
