Fantastic value Cabernet from the Grampians!

The Fallen Giants vineyard was planted in 1969. Great to see it with a new lease on life.  This is fruity in a stern way. It’s not a big wine by any stretch but it’s well ripened and curled with leaf-infused tannin. The word immaculate comes to mind. The previous release of this I tasted provoked the word Claret; this is in that mould again. I’d call it deceptively cellarable, because it will age charmingly, but it’s not really that deceptive.  Rated : 92+ Points.  Price : $30.  Drink : 2021 - 2030+.  Campbell Mattinson.  The Winefront.

This vineyard has long been a respected grower for many of the country’s great wineries until 1996, when it was bought by the famed Victorian Winemaker, the late, great Trevor Mast, and was a staple of Mount Langi Ghiran until 2013 when the current owners took over.  The wine coming out of this vineyard is fantastic, with the shiraz picking up 98 points from James Halliday in his 2019 Wine Companion.
