"Mike De Iuliis is understandably enraptured by the ‘pristine’ fruit of a wine that’s a ‘fantastic expression of cabernet’ with an ‘exceptionally fine tannin structure.’ He ran out of space to praise the glorious colour the wine has. It’s one of those all-too-rare cabernets to be drinking well now, but with an outlook as long as you wish. Gorgeous bargain." Rating: 97 Points. James Halliday. Halliday Wine Companion.
Just 2 times in 20 years has a $25 Cabernet scored 97 Points - De Iuliis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 has increased that number to 3 times in 20 years. That's right De Iuliis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 has scored an incredible 97 points in the Halliday Wine Companion due out next week.
De Iuliis is a 5 star rated in Hunter Valley winery, but sourced the fruit for this wine from the top notch cool climate region of Hilltops NSW. And what a great decision it was to head to Hilltops. While the winery has made their name for ultra value Semillon which regularly feature in Top 100s and receive high scores, this release just may mark the start of something new and special from the winery. Let's hope so.
There is just 240 bottles of this available, so we wont make a big song and dance. H
This Cabernet Sauvignon competes with the heavyweights from Coonawarra and Margaret River at a fifth of the price, it impressed me so much that i purchased many more cases for myself and my friends. My go to cabernet is Leeuwin Estate or Wynns Black Label and it is right up there with those icon wines!!
Over hyped. A really average wine. Definitely not worth 97 points in any universe that exists
