Very Burgundian (minus premox). No surprise the grapes for this wine were declared by Dalrymple to be of the highest quality." 96pts - James Halliday - Wine Companion
About this Wine
Free draining soils and steep slopes result in the Cave Block producing low yields of intensely concentrated fruit. The fruit was meticulously picked by hand, before whole bunch pressing to a mix of new and ol der French oak barriques and puncheons. Winemaking included a parcel of wild fermentation, light lees contact and partial malolactic fermentation to naturally adjust acidity for balance and structure.
"Predictably intense and varietal, a cool site x by a cool vintage. The colour is still bright, the bouquet with a complex touch of funk, the palate with wonderful drive. Very Burgundian (minus premox). No surprise the grapes for this wine were declared by Dalrymple to be of the highest quality." 96pts - James Halliday - Wine Companion
About the Winery
A long-standing producer of quality wines in the Piper's River region. Dalrymple Vineyards was established by Bertel and Anne Sundstrup in 1987. They were visionaries, travelling to France for inspiration and guidance. Situated in the heart of the highly acclaimed Pipers River region of northeast Tasmania, the Sundstrups planted their vines on sloping hills that overlook Bass Strait.
In '10 Peter Caldwell was appointed, responsible for the vineyard, viticulture and winemaking. He brought with him 10 years' experience at Te Kairanga Wines (NZ) and two years with Josef Chromy Wines. His knowledge of pinot noir and chardonnay is comprehensive.
