About the Wine

For those visiting cellar door, the winery offers Eadie's Block Shiraz, a lower priced alternative to the proprietory Shiraz ($55+).  As the cellar door is currently closed due to Covid-19, this is your one chance to purchase this wine without actually attending the winery.   It's great for fans of Craigee, but don't want to hand over $50+. The wine is made exclusively from grapes from the winery's younger vines and eventually, as they mature they will find their way into the main blend.

The 2016 Eadie's Block Shiraz is a medium (almost crimson) red with savoury notes of black pepper and spice on the nose.   The palate is savoury with oak overtones, a firm finish and medium body.

About the Winery

One of Australia's most constantly and criminally under-rated wineries. Doesn't help that Craiglee is located in the 'never-on-trend' region that is Sunbury but don't this distract - Pat Carmody produces cool climate classics of the highest order. The vineyard was originally established in the 1860s and Pat replanted back in 1976. The Shiraz is, I think, Australia's best 'pepper and spice' example of this cool climate style, whilst the Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are proven long-lived styles albeit in a refined and elegant mould.

I love how Gary Walsh on the Wine Front once described Craiglee: "I’d have Craiglee on my list of Australia’s best Shiraz for sure, except they’re such quiet achievers, you might forget to add them"
