More Information

This is a 25 year old Bordeaux from the premier region of Medoc; and yes it's from that fantastic 1995 vintage and yes it's been stored in the winery's own cellar until just last year.

This is exactly the type of wine you hear about, read about but never get to buy, until now.  I'll start by saying Bordeaux wines have a unique ability age and as they do, they take on body and fullness which makes them quite unique.  And that's what we have today with our feature wine, Château Bel Air Lagrave 1995.

You need a good vintage for a wine to age 25 years gracefully and that's exactly what wines from 1995 are doing.  At the time, the critics were all over 1995 and record prices at the time were set.  Here's a snippet of what they were saying:

"1995 is an excellent vintage for red Bordeaux, the most consistently successful since 1990" Stephen Tanzer

"Harmonious, rich and structured; long-lived"  Wine Spectator

'The 1995 vintage in Bordeaux was uniformly good." Frank J. Prial (NY TImes)

So what I'm saying is that you don't need to worry about the the vintage; 1995 was a fantastic.

When it comes to aged wines, pedigree is everything.   You'll be happy to know this was stored in the winery's own cellar for 24 years.  It only made it to Australia last year, so you can be confident this wine has received the very best cellaring.  Not only that, every single bottle shipped to Australia was re-corked at the Château in February 2019.

And if you want to know how it's drinking now, I'll start by advising what Stephen Tanzer wrote; "1995 is a very good example of a ripe-but-not- overripe vintage".  And even after 25 years, you get that from this wine - the balance of the wine is fantastic.

It still has some nice primary fruit, but aged savoury characteristics that only come with age are gracefully taking over.  The tannins are extraordinarily soft leaving the wine oh so smooth.   This is a complex wine, one that can only come from 25 years of cellaring.

I'd be surprised if you're ever offered a 25 year old Bordeaux again and even more so if if the price was anywhere near our asking price of $59.99 a bottle.  Also,  BUY 12 BOTTLES RECEIVE IT IN ORGINAL TIMBER BOX!
