More Information

In March this year we offered Halliday's Cheapest Ever 97 Point shiraz. It was Bondar Violet Hour Shiraz 2018 and it turned out to be our #1 selling shiraz this year (so far). It sold out in 2 weeks.  People asked for more, lots more.  While we don't have the 2018, we do have the 2019 in the store and ready to post.

The winery is smack bang in a middle of a purple patch.  They're a new winery and they've started with off on the right note.  In the Halliday Wine Companion 2017, Bondar was awarded Best New Winery.  They followed that up by taking out Best Shiraz and Best Single-Vineyard Shiraz at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.  Their 2018 shiraz rated 97 points and was included in last year's Halliday Top 100.

This 2019 is much like the 2018. It's modern McLaren Vale Shiraz.  Sure, it has the fullness and ripeness you expect from McLaren Vale, but there's a freshness about the flavour that new wave producers are extracting and boy it makes a difference. It's a McLaren Vale shiraz you can enjoy, glass after glass

Many of you have enjoyed the 2018.  Try the new wine, you won't be disappointed.

Where this wine comes from - McLaren Vale

Just south of Adelaide in South Australia, McLaren Vale is a red wine drinker’s haven, producing rich, velvety textured reds the state is known for. Looking over St Vincent Gulf, the maritime influence in McLaren Vale helps to keep summer temperatures down while the steady temperatures are perfect for producing balanced reds that are certainly easy on the palate. In a similar vein to the Barossa, McLaren Vale hangs its hat on Shiraz, but similarly, Grenache and Mourvèdre play a strong supporting role – perhaps outshining the star of the show on occasion! Certainly its GSM blends deserve recognition, producing seamless wines. Enjoying its Mediterranean climate, it comes as no surprise that the wines of McLaren Vale are perfect with hearty Italian dishes – ragout, pizza, or an antipasto platter – you can’t go wrong.
