About this Wine

Battle of Bosworth make terrific Cabernets and this a case in point. Expect black and blue fruits on the nose, lovely classy oak mixed in amongst it all, with blackberry and blackcurrant on the palate with great l ength and texture and a fine tannin structure.

About the Winery

Battle of Bosworth became very serious about organics far earlier than most, and this is particularly true to McLaren Vale.

What the winery has to say: "As organic producers we can’t use blending components from other vineyards, or indeed other regions, even if we wanted to. We have to create our own blending components in the vineyard and winery in various ways to add complexity to our wines. All of the red wines under our Battle of Bosworth label are Vegan Friendly."

The winery was established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith. The wines take their name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field, Leicestershire, England in 1485. The roots of the Bosworth family’s battle were planted in the early 1850’s with their first vineyard in McLaren Vale.

Joch and Louise have been growing their grapes organically for 23 years this year. Joch's vision saw him convert 24 acres of vines to organic viticulture in 1995. In 1999 they gained their organic certification from ACO P/L (Australian Certified Organic). This process represented a big leap of faith in many regards, not least because in those days 'organic' was not the buzzword it is today. Their vineyards were the first in McLaren Vale to achieve organic certification.

Where this wine comes from - McLaren Vale

Just south of Adelaide in South Australia, McLaren Vale is a red wine drinker’s haven, producing rich, velvety textured reds the state is known for. Looking over St Vincent Gulf, the maritime influence in McLaren Vale helps to keep summer temperatures down while the steady temperatures are perfect for producing balanced reds that are certainly easy on the palate. In a similar vein to the Barossa, McLaren Vale hangs its hat on Shiraz, but similarly, Grenache and Mourvèdre play a strong supporting role – perhaps outshining the star of the show on occasion! Certainly its GSM blends deserve recognition, producing seamless wines. Enjoying its Mediterranean climate, it comes as no surprise that the wines of McLaren Vale are perfect with hearty Italian dishes – ragout, pizza, or an antipasto platter – you can’t go wrong.
