More Information

This is your chance to buy Halliday's Cheapest Ever 97 Point  shiraz. It's Bondar Violet Hour Shiraz 2018.  Our competitor's have this for $27-$28.  We have it for $22.50, making it the cheapest ever shiraz rated 97 points by James Halliday.

The winery is smack bang in a middle of a purple patch.  They're a new winery and they've started with off on the right note.  In the Halliday Wine Companion 2017, Bondar was awarded Best New Winery.  They followed that up by taking out Best Shiraz and Best Single-Vineyard Shiraz at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.  Today we offer their brand new 2018 shiraz, which has lifted bar again with their 97 point shiraz which also was in last year's Halliday Top 100. Here's the review from the Top 100:

"The fabulous deep violet colour wasn't the inspiration for the name of the wine, but the glove fits. It is medium to full-bodied, overflowing with flavour, yet has a studied elegance. Oak and tannins provide the texture and structure, but not to the point of distraction, the focus of intention on the flavour at its heart. Rating: 97 Points". James Halliday. Halliday Top 100 2019

If you want my take: this is wine is it's modern McLaren Vale Shiraz.  Sure, it has the fullness and ripeness you expect from McLaren Vale, but there's a freshness about the flavour that new wave producers are extracting and boy it makes a difference. It's a McLaren Vale shiraz you can enjoy, glass after glass

It's got a Top 100 spot in the bag, it's got the 97 point rating and at Australia's cheapest price, I can't think of a reason not to load up!

Where this wine comes from - McLaren Vale

Just south of Adelaide in South Australia, McLaren Vale is a red wine drinker’s haven, producing rich, velvety textured reds the state is known for. Looking over St Vincent Gulf, the maritime influence in McLaren Vale helps to keep summer temperatures down while the steady temperatures are perfect for producing balanced reds that are certainly easy on the palate. In a similar vein to the Barossa, McLaren Vale hangs its hat on Shiraz, but similarly, Grenache and Mourvèdre play a strong supporting role – perhaps outshining the star of the show on occasion! Certainly its GSM blends deserve recognition, producing seamless wines. Enjoying its Mediterranean climate, it comes as no surprise that the wines of McLaren Vale are perfect with hearty Italian dishes – ragout, pizza, or an antipasto platter – you can’t go wrong.
