Adelina Shiraz Mataro 2019

1 review
''There's a wealth of vibrant dark plums here with a deep, herb and asphalt edge as well. The palate carries a very plush, fresh and lively feel with impressive depth and elegance.'' 94 Points, James Suckling

More Information

The Adelina vineyards are situated in Spring  Farm Valley, just south of the township of Clare. Neighbours include the vineyards of W endouree, Aberfeldy and Sevenhill Cellars. The small Adelina plantings were originally establi shed around 1910; mostly Shiraz and Grenache with small plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. The vineyard is right next door to Birk’s Wendouree so we know the terroir is good!

Adelina's blend of Shiraz (68%) and Mataro (32%) was grown in the Springfarm sub-area of the Clare Valley, with the Mataro and a portion of th e Shiraz fruit coming from the famed Aberfeldy Vineyard, plus a little Adelina Estate fruit. The elevation around these parts is a serious 440 metres and all up, an imposing 60-70% of this wine comes from vines with an age of around 100 years!

Artistic label belies a well crafted wine

This is a beauty, both outside and in. In a classic pairing, the Shiraz provides all the punch and bravado while the Mataró provides the gritty and earthy backbone to balance the blend. Enough fruit to please the new world drinker while still supplying the earthy undertones of Cotes du Rhône and similarly styled Spanish blends. Buy two, save yourself the return trip.
